View Article  Wembleys gone!

Or at least it has at the first attempt this season.

The hoped for cup run ended with yet another disapointing performance at home to Blackburn, a couple of examples of slack and bad defending and woeful open goal miss by David Nugent just about summed up the night.

A late goal by Kanu was just too late to give hope of an equalizer

PENATLIES My god, are they that difficult to score!

A pretty mediocre performance from Pompey and a goaless draw would have been fair, but to get a last minute penalty and then missed it is unforgivable!

Why Benjani decided to defy orders and take it I don't know, can't say anyone around me had confidence in his ability to take one and Kranjcar or Muntari were the obvious choices. As it is we lost the chance to go 4th.

We have now dropped 4 points due to missed penalties this season

The football clubs overly ambitious plan to build the ground at the Hard has failed due to the Navy apparently requiring the land, as the idea all seemed a bit make believe to begin with I can't help wondering if it was never the real intention anyway.

The new proposed site is Horsea Island on vacant land also currently owned by the Navy, this site is next to the motorway and has no major residential area close by so should aid any planning application.

Just further from the train stations!

Well they were not really expected to win it, but they gave a much better fight then a lot thought they would considering South Africa had already beaten them 36-0 earlier in the tournament.

Unlikely not to score a try when Mathew Tait had his effort disallowed.

The final result was 6 - 15 to SouthAfrica

Approximatly 4000 Pompey fans made the journey, encouraged by free travel and a £15 admission fee, to watch Portsmouth continue they great early season form and pick up another away win.

Another goal from Benjani and an impressive solo effort from a surprisingly in form Glen Johnson secured the points

The England football team once again succumb to the inevitable failure and blow it in Russia. The only two positives are Sol Campbells second cap as a Portsmouth player and hopefully we are one step nearer getting McLaren removed from the job

A good day for England all round, after the football teams easy and expected win against Estonia it was the rugby teams turn to pull of a marvellous and far from expected win over the host nation France.

An early Lewsey try set England off to a good start but a succession of penalties allowed the French to take a narrow one point lead until the latter stages when in the 75th minute a Wilkinson penalty gave England the lead followed 3 minutes later by an all important drop goal meaning France need a converted try to win which England managed to resist.

After a poor start to the tournament the defending champions are back in the final

Following on from the steps of David James it was today Sol Campbells turn to represent England while a Portsmouth player.

Not since 1984 has a Pompey player started a game for England, hopefully John Terry will still be injured on Wednesday so Campbell will keep his place

England beat Estonia 3 - 0

Pompey keep up their winning run!

Although both goals had a hint of a deflection the results were deserved. Portsmouth back up to 6th and looking good!
